Mile 48.40 - This right-of-way was one of the most hotly contested between
the canal and the railroad. The tunnel is 788 feet long.
The route 15 bridge passes right over the RR tunnel. Since Washington DC
is a major population center, you might expect there to be lots of bridges across
the Potomac but there's actually very few. Outside of the Capital Beltway,
there's White's Ferry and the bridge here.
This fellow was cycling from Cumberland on a two seater. Although that
is a baby carrier, it doesn't have a baby in it, it contains camping equipment.
