Mile 62.33 - It gets a little complicated here. This is a three
way stop: to the left is where inlet lock 3 flows into the canal. The
towpath has been rerouted here and would have normally crossed over the the inlet
lock to the little footbridge over lock 35 you can see here. Instead, NPS
has routed around to the mouth of the inlet lock. If you want to take the
original route, cross here to where you see the footbridge and it'll take you to
If you take the original towpath route, you'll see that instead of a bypass flume,
there's a drydock for repairing boats.
Mile 62.44 - That's right, there's two locks within a tenth of a mile
of each other. There's not much left as the lock has been filled with earth and
all that remains is the little brown sign that says "Lock 36". The
lockhouse was shared with the dam 3 inlet lock (next page).
