Mile 39.4 - Lock 26, also known as Wood's Lock

Every lock has a bypass flume to allow water in the canal to keep flowing even when the locks are shut. This is the gate to the bypass flume which the locktender would open or close, as needed.

The bypass flows around the lock in a stream, the remains which you can see here, marked by stones. This is sometimes called a "mule drink".
