Mile 22.12 - Violette's Lock (Lock 23) and inlet lock #2 meet at this
point. From here to Georgetown, the canal is watered. The original plan
when the US government bought the canal was to keep the canal from Seneca Creek
to Georgetown always watered. Since the waters of the canal can be replenished
here via the inlet lock, this plan worked out quite well. Kayakers, canoeists
and other outdoor adventurers frequent the canal from Thompson's Boathouse at mile
0 to this lock. Past this point though, it all dwindles to a trickle.
